The Yellow Train

The yellow train runs for 62km between Villefranche de Conflent and Latour de Carol, offering extraordinary panoramic views, with departures from the station of Mont-Louis La Cabanasse.
Building the line was an extraordinary technological challenge, requiring no fewer than 650 engineering works (including 19 tunnels and several viaducts), and building the line up to the highest railway halt in France (at Bolquère) was perilous work indeed.

Mont Louis Solar Furnace

Come and visit the first solar furnace in the world.

A fascinating visit for all ages. The guides will tell you all about the techniques used and let you visit the heart of the installations.

It was built in 1949 just after the Second World War. It was the first installation of its kind in the world, and a forerunner to the solar furnace at Odeillo, built 15 years later just a few kilometres away.

In addition to being used for research purposes, it has since 1993 been the most-used furnace for industrial and craft production (firing ceramics).
