THE VILLAGE RESORT
The resort created in 1964 by Paul Samson became one of the most successful of the Pyrenees after 5 decades.
The resort of Les Angles, thanks to its unique concept in the Pyrenees of "Village Resort" owes its success to its ski area which arrives at the foot of the tower. She also has the professionalism of all those involved and the quality of its welcome.
Illuminated by the Mediterranean sun, the Angles station Capcir Plateau dominates the landscape in the Catalan Pyrenees.
In the morning, forests and lakes easily evoke Canada.
In 1964, the adventure begins Angles with the installation of a first chair lift, 2 ski lifts will follow very quickly.
Les Angles, today is a vibrant ski resort.
A ski area of quality, conducive to good snow exhibition, an exceptional view of the massif of Carlit Canigou foot, paths that arrive at the foot of the tower, these are the strengths of the station.
Les Angles is the resort of all snowsports .... for lovers of surfing and for skiers.
Les Angles is also winter vitality and charm of an old Catalan town allied with the advantages of a ski resort.
It is a village that offers, on the slopes of the Roc d'Aude and Mount Llaret between 1 600m and 2 400m above sea level, 60km of pistes for all levels.
The station has also built its reputation on its permanent innovation capacity in skiing with original concepts and quality field. The trails are in the forest and induce respect for nature.
The Angles station wishes to remain a friendly resort, innovative and dynamic.
IN WINTER IN SUMMER
The ski resort of Les Angles has implemented an environmental strategy that has obtained ISO 14OO1 certification. This is a very exacting protocol to ensure that all our amenities, material handling, equipment, and production meet a very high standard of quality and safety that also takes the environment into account.
The efforts of the ski resort were duly rewarded when it gained ISO 14001 certification in April 2007. Fewer than ten ski resorts in France had certification at that time.
Some of the most important examples of what we are doing:
The famous local wood grouse is being protected thanks to an anti-collision system installed on the chair lift cables.
The use of organic products (oils, grease, etc.) by all our services.
Measures to prevent soil and water pollution.
Recycling of all material by business, and a recycling service for all the resort’s clients.
Every summer a day is set aside to collect any litter left on the slopes.
- A fleet of 8 free shuttle buses, each taking 45 people, calling at the slopes and all the neighbourhoods in the village resort to limit car use.
The building of a picnic room on the ski area that is wholly self-sufficient in its energy needs, being heated using a heat pump driven by two fireplaces.
The town has also implemented a highly innovative and committed environmental policy:
Strict limits on urban development so as to protect the countryside and agricultural areas.
Close management of water resources, with the water stocks and supply for the town and the snow cannons placed under close surveillance.
Any planned development (buildings, footpaths, ski lifts) has first to identify any “natural risk zones”, and is based on highly sophisticated Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to help reach the best decision.
The town now manages its forests sustainably and produces its own wood pellets to deliver energy self-sufficiency for public buildings (garages and so on).
Les Angles is pursuing its approach for sustainable development in the mountains and has become a member of the Mountain Riders Association.
The resort hopes that by becoming involved in environmental issues in this way it will encourage users to act more responsibly too.
CAR-SHARING: the resort has set up a car-sharing scheme on its website so as to minimise the number of vehicles coming to and from the resort.
ENVIRONMENT: The ANA Chalet, a serviced chalet, has been awarded the European Ecolabel.
It was the first in the local area and only the second in the region to obtain this EU Ecolabel.
