The beach up in the mountains

Despite what most people think, going to the mountains for your holidays does not mean that you can forget about being able to go for a swim.

Lac de Matemale near Les Angles lies at 1600 metres altitude in the Capcir.

It is the ideal spot for wonderfully relaxing moments amidst the unspoiled natural environment, and you get there via the Forêt de la Matte.

The water in the lake is between 19°C and 23°C, there is a lifeguard there every day in August from 11 AM to 6 PM - and all this amidst the magnificent landscapes and without the hassles of an overcrowded Mediterranean beach.

Once the skiing season comes to an end it is time for beach activities and boating. This is the place to go sailing or windsurfing, in a dinghy, catamaran, pedalo, kayak, or canoe, or to enjoy swimming in the supervised areas.

There is also a multi-activity leisure area for adults and children.

The beach up in the mountains – in the leisure area there is supervised bathing every day in July and August.

All these activities make it an ideal place to go walking, for water sports and leisure activities, or else quite simply to relax.

So when you lay your towel on the beach here you will be able to enjoy the sheltered bay, the beach facilities, the diving boards, and so on. There is a sailing school to learn how to handle an optimist or caravelle dinghy, and windsurfing and funboard lessons are also available, as are a wide range of activities such as canoeing and pedalos.
