Climbing around the Lac de Balcère
The picturesque Lac de Balcère is set amidst the pine forests at 1770 metres and is easy to get to by car. All keen climbers can come here to try climbing the legendary Roc des Maures.
There are family picnic facilities on site as well as a refreshment chalet, together with a climbing rock for beginners and expert climbers.
Legend has it that a fortress once stood at the top of this rock, built by the Moors when they were present in the region. And Noah is said to have tied up his ark to an iron ring there during the Flood.
A leaflet is available from the Tourism Office.
There are also other sites to discover in the Capcir and in Cerdagne, including the Chaos de Targasonne, the Roc de l’Aigle, and the Aveillans.

BUREAU MONTAGNE DES ANGLES
The Via Ferrata at Llo are mountain adventure courses that are suitable for all levels, from beginners and family through to advanced and competition.
The concept is based on the same safety principle as that used for treetop courses as you move along a lifeline (the cable) using safety equipment (a harness, tethers, carabiners, and a helmet). The difference is that you advance along the rock, making it similar to climbing except that you don’t need to map out your ascent since you follow the cable, using holds that are already fixed in place.
Depending upon the level of the course you follow it procures you varying sensations – pushing your limits, team spirit, controlling feelings of vertigo, or else quite simply the pleasure of sharing an adventure with others.
